YOGA TRADITION

Opinions vary but yoga is estimated to date back as far as 5,000 years. Whether your purpose is to transcend Self, cultivate a living relationship to spirit, become cured of disease, or simply to 'get in shape', yoga is present every step of the way.

Yoga is a common word in the Sanskrit language. Yoga pertains to evenness, unification, and balance of body, mind, and spirit.

Some types of yoga are: bhakti yoga which is yoga of devotion, karma yoga which is yoga of action, kriya yoga which is cleansing yoga-(spiritual or physical), hatha yoga which doing yoga postures, and jnana yoga which is the yoga of wisdom, just to name a few.

Yoga is a reflection of everything and everyone in the universe. In yoga, all beings are recognized equally. The best way to learn about yoga is through the ancient scriptures and development of your own personal practice. From the ancient text of the Bhagavad-Gita translated by yogic scholar Georg Fuerstein:

"(He) Whose self is yoked in Yoga and who everywhere beholds the same, sees the Self abiding in all beings and all beings in the Self. He who sees Me everywhere and sees all in Me, to him I am not lost, nor is he (ever) lost to Me. He who is intent on oneness ((ekatva) and loves Me, abiding in all beings in whatever (state) he exists, that yogin dwell in Me. (VI. 29-32)"
